What is Office Communicator?

Users running Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 on Windows or Microsoft Messenger 5.0 on Mac OS X, integrates rich communication capabilities to allow teams and information workers to more easily and efficiently communicate in real time. You can easily find people you need to communicate with and interact using traditional text-based messaging. For those users whose computers meet extended requirements, video and voice communications are also available.

How do I install this program?

What if I need help?

If you need help with installation or use of Office Communicator please contact the ITS HelpDesk at (810) 766-6804 or ITSHelpDesk@umflint.edu.

What if I am a Mac user?

Mac users currently are limited to text-based messaging and document sharing at this time. If you need help with Messenger for Mac, use the Microsoft Mactopia page Messenger for Mac Main Page.

What if i'm on a public computer?

Not a problem! You can access our web-based version of Office Communicator from any computer at https://lc.umflint.edu/.

How do I use Office Communicator with External IM services?

Connections to three public IM services (AOL, MSN, and Yahoo) are available for an additional fee. Public IM clients can communicate with you using your UM-Flint email address on all three services.

To order a public IM license, visit the MS Office LCS Order Form and select the number of licenses you wish to purchase. After receiving your order confirmation from central licensing, you will need to email NSS@list.umflint.edu and provide your license confirmation and the uniqname associated with the license.
