In 2004, ITS accomplished a campus-wide implementation of Altiris, a dnDesktop Management System.  This tool assists with security of personal computers, HelpDesk support of users, and inventory reporting.

In mid-2002, ITS implemented the use of Altiris to support creating disk images for ITS-managed computer labs.  Instead of ITS technicians having to update each and every computer using a floppy disk or CD, Altiris downloads updates over the network.  Most labs are imaged every other day.

For more information about Altiris, please view the slideshow that was presented to the Faculty and Staff councils.

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Next Monday, February 2, 2004, ITS will be installing Altiris client onto all computers campus wide. Altiris is a Desktop Management System and a tool that will assist with security of personal computers, HelpDesk support of users, and inventory reporting. This installation will not require any user intervention and will be fully automated.  The first time you logon effective 2/2/04, you’ll see a DOS window with a message stating, “Please wait - network updates installing.”  The DOS window may remain on your desktop for 60 seconds and will then disappear.

This implementation has been approved by both the Faculty and Staff Councils.  For further details, please see the URL below and/or attend an Open Forum in which ITS personnel will be available to answer questions.
