Academic Software Program Date: November 7, 2006
From: Technology Committee Subject: Funds for Computing Software The Technology Committee invites applications for the support of faculty computing software. The purpose of the Academic Software Program is to provide the opportunity for faculty to try new and/or innovative software in teaching, research, or public service projects. Each application will be ranked according to whether the intended use is primarily for teaching (highest rank), research (second), or public service (third). The total amount available for these grants in this round is approximately $15,500. An additional smaller sum of money is available to support renewable software. Renewable software grants will be supported for three years, after which the faculty member reapply for funding. Please note the following Conditions of Use when considering applying for academic project software.
For additional information about software installations, please see the ITS Software Installation Policy at http://ww2.umflint.edu/its/policies.htm#software and http://ww2.umflint.edu/its/forms/software.PDF. All Academic Project Software applicants will be notified with a letter of acceptance or regret on or before December 8, 2006. Software must be ordered and onsite prior to December 14th to be available for usage during the upcoming winter semester. All proposals MUST be submitted online by 5pm on Friday, December 1, 2006. Proposals received after 5pm on December 1, 2006 will NOT be considered. The Technology Committee will make a final review and announce awards by mid-December. Once approved, ITS will be responsible for purchasing the software on behalf of the applicant. Software purchases, testing and installations will occur during December of fall term in order to accommodate a full implementation effective winter semester, 2007.
