University of Michigan-Flint Credit Option Partnerships

Approval and Implementation Process  |  Contact Us  |

The University of Michigan-Flint is actively developing partnerships with school districts and educational organizations to provide graduate credit for high-quality professional development opportunities designed and implemented by our partners or in collaboration with our skilled faculty.  We are interested in partnering with local districts, ISDs, and organizations which serve K-12 educators in our region and beyond.

What Do We Promise?

We know that successful schools value high-quality, relevant professional development programs for their faculty and administrators.  UM-Flint offers:

UM-Flint Credit Option Course Approval and Implementation Process

  1. Organizations interested in the UM-Flint Credit Option typically enter into a written agreement with the University [view sample agreement].  This agreement outlines the roles and responsibilities of the University and its partners and arrangements for sharing of tuition revenue.  For more information, contact Robert C. Hahn in the Graduate Programs Office.
  2. In order for a course to be considered for UM-Flint graduate credit, the sponsoring organization is asked to complete and submit a credit option application  which will include basic information, a course syllabus and instructor vita, all of which will be submitted to the appropriate University faculty for review and approval.  These applications may be submitted in hard copy.
  3. Applications should be submitted no later than 4 weeks prior to the proposed beginning of the course so the faculty has a sufficient opportunity for review/approval.
  4. Ordinarily, courses will be approved for 1, 2, or 3 graduate credits and will be provided with the course number EDE 587 - Special Topics for Professional Development or, in the case of courses for educational administration, PUB 567 – The Principal, or PUB 582 - Schools & Communities.  Unique subtitles will be used to distinguish sections of EDE 587 and PUB 567/582.
  5. A maximum of six credits of such coursework may be applied by students to graduate programs at the University of Michigan-Flint.
  6. The Office of Graduate Programs will usually designate one of its staff as an “Instructor of Record”; the course instructor will provide grades to the Instructor of Record for timely posting.  For more information about grading, please consult Grading Practices and Grades for UM-Flint Credit Option Classes.
  7. The Office of Graduate Programs will provide assistance with registration and tuition for students who opt to enroll for credit.  Details regarding the process of tuition billing for students enrolled in a UM-Flint credit option program are available online or by contacting one of the individuals listed below  The University Registrar will provide grade reports or transcripts upon successful completion of courses.
  8. Course evaluation:  Students will have the opportunity to provide feedback regarding each course and the UM-Flint Credit Option Program using a format which ensures them confidentiality.
