Grading Practices and Grades for UM-Flint Credit Option Classes
Instructor Grading Procedures
All courses approved by the faculty for the UM-Flint Credit Option will have a designated instructor of record, typically an individual in the Office of Graduate Programs. Course instructors will provide final grades to the Instructor of Record, who will post grades in the UM-Flint’s Student Information System (SIS). The deadline for posting final grades in SIS usually falls 3-5 days following the University’s final exam period, even though a particular course may have ended several weeks prior to that deadline.
In order to accommodate school district personnel office needs, UM-Flint Credit Option instructors will use a letter-grade format. Occasionally, under special circumstances approved in advance, a Pass/Fail grading scale may be used.
Student Access to Grade Reports and Transcripts
Students who enroll in UM-Flint Credit Option classes are provided a handout (“UM-Flint SIS and Email Access”) upon registration which will assist them in establishing a UM-Flint student email account and accessing SIS. Through SIS, students are able to view grades and other up-to-date information regarding course registration, billing, etc. When viewing grades, an unofficial copy can be printed.
Students who require verification of successful course completion prior to availability of official grade reports and transcripts or have other special needs should contact the Graduate Programs Office (810-762-3171) for personal assistance.
Official transcripts can be ordered either in person, by mail, or via fax. The Registrar’s fax number is 810-762-3346. Costs are $4 each (5 day processing service); or $8 each (2-day processing service). Transcripts ordered for other UM-Flint offices will be provided free of charge.
Students who wish to pay with credit card should contact the Cashier’s Office directly, at (810) 762-3490, and they will provide a verification of payment to the Registrar. Otherwise, checks or money orders should be made payable to the University of Michigan-Flint and enclosed with a completed transcript request form which is available at: http://www.umflint.edu/registrar/transdip.php.
